Explainer: Google Advertiser Verification

By verifying who you are and where your business operates, Google helps users understand who is behind the ads they see and reduces the risk of misleading or harmful advertising.

Once verified, some of your business details (like advertiser name and location) may appear in ad disclosures.

You may be prompted to complete verification because:

  • Your account was selected as part of Google’s transparency efforts.

  • Your ad behaviour or content triggered review.

  • You’re advertising in industries or on search terms that require extra verification.

  • Your account has policy or suspension history that requires review.

If Google hasn’t verified your account by the required deadline, some or all of your ads may be restricted or paused until verification is complete.

What You Need to Do (Steps)

When you’re selected for identity verification, you’ll receive an in‑account notification or email. The general flow is:

1. Open the Verification Prompt

In Google Ads, there will be a banner or alert asking you to start advertiser verification. Click Get started or Fix it in that section.

2. Consent to Ad Disclosures

You’ll be asked to agree to show your business name and location in ad disclosures. Click Agree and continue.

3. Provide Required Information

Google will ask you to:

  • Answer questions about your organisation and business operations

  • Upload required documents, such as business registration and identity documents (these vary by country)
Make sure the info you enter matches your Google Ads account details.

4. Submit and Wait for Review

After you upload everything, submit your verification for review. It can take several days for Google to confirm your details.

5. Address Any Follow‑Up Requests

If Google requires additional information, you’ll be notified in‑account or by email. Provide accurate and complete documentation to resolve any issues.

Important Notes

  • If you don’t complete the verification by the required deadline, your ads may be paused.

  • You may be asked to re‑verify in the future, especially after major changes to your account details (e.g., business name or payment profile).

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide. Fake or inconsistent data can result in your account being suspended.
