Pulse seamlessly manages and synchronizes all your first-party data with Klaviyo. It captures a wide array of customer events from your website - such as product views, cart additions, and checkouts - and sends them to Klaviyo to power your marketing automation. Whether you’re migrating existing flows or creating new ones, Pulse events can enhance personalization and targeting across your campaigns.
In this article:
Migrating your existing Klaviyo flows to use Pulse events
Clone your existing flow
- Navigate to the Flows section in Klaviyo.
- Locate the flow you want to migrate, then select the three vertical dots on the right-hand side.
- Click Clone to create a copy of your existing flow.
Update the flow trigger
- Open the cloned flow and rename it to reflect its purpose (e.g., “Abandoned Cart – Pulse”).
- Change the flow’s trigger to the relevant Pulse event (e.g., “Pulse – Added to Cart”). This ensures that the flow now initiates when a Pulse event occurs rather than your previous data source.
Adjust the content
- Inside your new flow, click on the email block you wish to edit and choose Edit email.
- Update the email’s dynamic content fields to use the Pulse Event properties. You can find these properties using the Preview & Test feature and then copying the desired property keys. For example, if you are using “Pulse – Added to Cart,” you might insert product names, images, or prices based on the event’s properties.
Activate and refine your flow
- Once you’ve confirmed your flow trigger and updated content, activate the new flow.
- To avoid sending duplicate emails, ensure that the original (old) flow is deactivated or updated.
- Consider adding a Flow Filter in the Trigger Setup of the old flow to exclude customers who have already triggered the new Pulse-based flow. This prevents overlap and confusion for subscribers.
Creating new Klaviyo flows using Pulse events
If you’re building new flows from scratch or you’re new to Klaviyo, refer to Klaviyo’s Getting Started with Flows guide for step-by-step instructions. When creating a fresh flow:
Choose the relevant Pulse trigger event from the start (e.g., “Pulse – Viewed Page” for browse abandonment campaigns).
Incorporate Pulse Event Properties directly into your messaging. For instance, an Abandoned Cart email can include product images, variant details, or pricing pulled from the “Pulse – Added to Cart” event.
Test and iterate. Use Klaviyo’s preview and test functionality to ensure that your emails display the desired dynamic content.
Strategies for leveraging Pulse events in new flows
Browse Abandonment (Pulse – Item Viewed / Pulse – Viewed Page)

Include post-purchase cross-sell recommendations using event properties to reference related products.
